Meet Jamie

James “Jamie” Davis Jr. is a father, grandfather, husband, and third-generation row-crop farmer from Waterproof. He was born in Houston before his parents returned home to the Louisiana Delta when he was a young child. He attended public schools and played football at Waterproof High School. After graduating, he headed to Louisiana State University. He studied Electrical Engineering for two years before returning home to begin working with his father at their family-owned Davis Farms, which his father started in 1977. Together, Jamie and his father grew the farm to more than 2000 acres–including the land that his grandfather worked as a sharecropper. Today, he owns and operates Davis Farms–growing sorghum, corn, soy, and cotton.

In 2015, Jamie was elected to serve as a Police Juror for District 7 of Tensas Parish. He unseated the longest-serving Police Juror in the state of Louisiana to win the seat and served as Vice President of the Jury for the entire four years he was in office.

In 2023, Jamie ran for State Representative in District 21 to fight for his community–one that has faced a loss of population, poorly funded schools, and a waning economy for generations. He ran on a belief that District 21 deserves more–an advocate who personally understands the challenges of the community they represent. While he narrowly lost that race to the long-standing incumbent, he continues to serve his District as a member of the Democratic State Central Committee.Jamie now resides in Ferriday with his wife, Brenda, and lives near his four kids, 13 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Each day, he returns to work in Tensas Parish, like his father and grandfather before him.

As a small-business owner, farmer, and native of Louisiana’s Delta, Jamie has seen the needs of his community ignored and left behind. He knows the struggles of Louisiana families–in cities and small towns alike–because he and his family have faced the same challenges. With young people leaving the state to pursue economic opportunities elsewhere and little incentive to bring new industry into communities like his, he’s watched as Louisiana has steadily become one of the poorest states in the country.

He’s running for U.S. Senate to build a resilient Louisiana we can all afford–fighting for a strong economy, affordable healthcare, and strong schools for every family.

What Jamie is fighting for:

  • Affordability

  • Healthcare

  • Education
